Domestic Abuse, Recovery Pathways, Trauma Support

Safe, Compassionate, and Trauma-Informed Support

Our services are designed to create safety, connection, and healing.

We understand that trauma recovery looks different for everyone, and that every journey begins with being heard, not hurried.
Our team of trauma-informed practitioners provide a calm, professional environment where you can begin to rebuild trust, explore your experiences, and move toward resilience at your own pace.

A Safe Space to Learn and Seek Support

Domestic abuse can affect anyone — regardless of age, gender, background, or circumstance.
It can take many forms, and it’s not always physical. At Soteria, we recognise that abuse can include emotional, psychological, financial, sexual, and coercive control.
If you are living with or recovering from abuse, please know this: it is not your fault, and you are not alone.

Abuse is about power and control.

It can include:

🌿 Being isolated from family and friends

🌿 Controlling what you do, where you go, or who you speak to

🌿 Financial control or taking your money

🌿 Threats, intimidation, or humiliation

🌿 Physical or sexual harm

Not all abuse leaves visible marks — emotional and psychological abuse can be just as damaging and painful.

How We Can Help

We provide specialist trauma-informed counselling and recovery support for survivors of domestic abuse.
Our practitioners understand the deep emotional and physical impact abuse can have.
We work with you at your own pace, focusing on rebuilding safety, self-worth, and confidence in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.
Our services include:

🌿 One-to-one trauma-informed counselling
🌿 Group recovery programmes
🌿 Support around boundaries, empowerment, and emotional regulation and signposting to partner agencies

Therapeutic Groups & Recovery Courses

Our group spaces offer peer support, empowerment, and understanding among others who share similar experiences. Each group is facilitated by trauma-informed practitioners and designed to help you reconnect with confidence and community.

We run structured group programmes, including:

Foundations of Recovery (6 Weeks):

  • Our Therapeutic Group provides a gentle introduction to recovery in a supportive, trauma-informed space. Across six weeks, we explore key themes such as emotional safety, understanding trauma responses, reconnecting with identity, and building small but sustainable steps toward healing.

  • Alongside guided therapeutic content, you will also have the opportunity to receive peer support and connect with others who may share similar experiences. Many people find that being with others who “get it” helps reduce isolation and brings a sense of understanding, validation, and community.

  • This group is designed to help you regain steadiness, feel less alone, and develop practical tools to support your well-being. You will be held with compassion, choice, and respect throughout.

Rewriting the Pattern (10 Weeks)

  • Rewriting the Pattern is a deeper, more structured programme for those who want to understand the impact of trauma — particularly domestic abuse — on their thoughts, feelings, relationships, and sense of self.

  • Across 10 weeks, we explore:

  • How trauma shapes patterns and coping behaviours

  • the dynamics and tactics of abuse

  • the process of rebuilding safety and boundaries

  • developing a stronger, more empowered sense of identity

  • breaking cycles and creating new, healthier patterns

  • This programme supports you to reclaim your voice, rebuild confidence, and move forward with clarity, strength, and self-compassion.

Understanding the Child’s Story (10 Weeks):

  • Understanding the Child’s Story focuses on the effects of domestic abuse from a child’s perspective. Over ten weeks, we explore how children experience trauma, what safety looks like through their eyes, and how parents and caregivers can support emotional recovery.

  • Themes include:

  • recognising trauma responses in children

  • Understanding the impact on attachment and behaviour

  • supporting emotional expression and resilience

  • strengthening the parent–child connection

  • building a safe, secure, nurturing environment

  • This programme empowers parents and caregivers with insight, tools, and confidence so they can support children in healing from the effects of abuse.

Disabilities, Chronic Conditions & Trauma

At Soteria Trauma & Recovery CIC, we recognise that trauma and physical health are deeply connected.
For many survivors, experiences of domestic abuse or prolonged trauma can lead to, or worsen, chronic conditions such as pain, fatigue, autoimmune illnesses, and neurological symptoms.

Others may live with disabilities or long-term health issues that make them more vulnerable to controlling or coercive partners.
Our work acknowledges both realities and supports healing at the intersection of mind and body.
